Partners In Healing
Created in response to the social and emotional fallout from the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, Partners in Healing integrates mental health concepts and interventions with youth development in the context of community-based afterschool programs.
To implement Partners in Healing, PASE is partnering with New York University’s School of Social Work, the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, the Mental Health Association of New York City, Youth Communication and Safe Horizon. With these partners, PASE has developed a curriculum, published the Partners in Healing Directory of Mental Health Programs and Services for Youth and Families in New York City, and provides on-site technical assistance for youth practitioners at 22 sites across the city, in order to build the capacity of youth workers to identify, respond to, and assess the mental health needs of young people and, when necessary, refer them to appropriate additional mental health services.
The Partners in Healing Directory of Mental Health Programs and Services for Youth and Families in New York City details almost 200 agencies throughout the five boroughs that offer mental health services for children and families. It can be used by youth agencies to build relationships with neighborhood mental health providers, and to assist parents and teens in accessing services.
Agencies: Children's Aid Society/PS 8, Children of the City, Citizens Advice Bureau, Effective Alternative in Reconciliation Services, Filipino American Human Services, Generation X-Cel, Grand Street Settlement, Hamilton Madison House, Lower East Side Girls Club, MARC After School Program, Project Reach Youth, Inc., Queens Child Guidance Center, St. Nicholas Neighborhood Preservation, South Asian Youth Action, Chinatown YMCA, Council of Pakistan Organizations, East Harlem Churches and Community Urban Center, Educational Alliance, Latin American Integration Center, Latino Pastoral Action Committee, New York City Mission Society, and Roza Productions, Inc.
Funders: Robin Hood Foundation, Tiger Foundation, New York Times Company Foundation, and The Stella and Charles Guttman Foundation.
