Dollars and Sense: Building Financial Dreams

Want to learn how to better plan for your future? PASE has the answers in its new financial literacy initiative.

(New York - WABC, May 1, 2007) - The largest network of after school programs in the country is teaming up with the NASD Investor Education Foundation to offer financial literacy training to 18- to 24-year-olds.

PASE, which connects more than 1,400 youth-serving agencies throughout New York City, is now offering the "Dollars and Sense: Building Financial Dreams" initiative. Organizers say the goal is to educate participants about the value of saving, especially for retirement, so they can create a more financially secure future for themselves and their families. They hope to appeal to agencies serving low-income areas of the city. The trainings are free, open to anyone and include three sessions. Sessions take place at community-based organizations and occasionally at PASE's offices, which are located at 120 Broadway, Suite 230.

Tuesday morning, PASE conducted two sessions back-to-back covering the same information with two separate groups of youth at the "Year Up" program. Young people from all over the city come to the program, which helps them prepare for the work world.

Participants were almost exclusively young people as opposed to staff, as the program specifically reaches young people ages 18-24.

They are usually either high school graduates or GED recipients. Some are in college or vocational school, and some are preparing to enter the work world.

Viewers may get into the program by contacting PASE at 212-571-2664 and ask for Liz Fisher. For more info, visit PASEsetter.org or e-mail EFisher@PASEsetter.org.
