Gain Management Skills in PASE’s Emerging Leaders Program! Are you looking to grow professionally? Are you interested in taking on a leadership role in your organization? The Emerging Leaders in Child and Youth Services course will help you accomplish all these goals and more. Offered by PASE in collaboration with Baruch College’s School of Public Affairs, this comprehensive, semester-long course in nonprofit management offers lectures and discussions that combine the expertise of both seasoned practitioners and Baruch professors. In the course, you will develop the skills you need to become an effective manager, to be a leader in your organization, and to help usher your agency through challenging times while improving services. In this edition of the Bulletin, PASE is introducing a new regular feature. From time to time, interviews with PASE staff and other experts in the field will focus on a topic important to out-of-school time and provide information and guidance that will be useful to you as a practitioner. In this issue, PASE’s Associate Director of Regional and National Programs, Ellen O’Connell, and Program Director, Shelly Wilson, sit down to discuss effective practices for summer programs. Together, Ms. O’Connell and Ms. Wilson have over 25 years of youth development experience and oversee PASE’s Summer Learning initiative which has helped youth-serving organizations implement effective summer programs for eight years running. In this interview, they discuss the difference between summer and school-year programs, staffing summer programs, balancing fun and enrichment in the summer, things to look out for when planning, and good resources for the summer.
