Common Core Standards

New York City will begin transitioning to the Common Core State Standards in 2011-2012, with full implementation in the 2014-2015 school year. Responding to a demonstrated interest from the afterschool field for more information about the standards, PASE held two Common Core Standards Presentation and Discussion on October 5 & November 9, 2011.

Gregg Betheil, Executive Director of School Programs and Partnerships at the NYC Department of Education, provided an overview of the Common Core Standards and the DOE’s plan for implementation, and discussed how afterschool and youth programs can support the implementation efforts.  Over 110 afterschool and education professionals attended the two sessions and PASE looks forward to continued discussions on supporting the common core standards.
