PASE Site-Based Training Menu for Afterschool Programs

PASE is now offering site-based training to programs serving youth in grades k-6.  For each site-based training, PASE will conduct a pre-workshop assessment to help match specific needs with workshop outcomes.  Site-based workshops may be implemented as half day (3.0 hours) or full day (6 hours) sessions, Monday-Saturday.

If you are interested in the site-based offerings below, please complete and return the Site-Based Training Request Form.  PASE will contact you to conduct a pre-assessment and complete the Memorandum of Understanding.  Requests for training must be received at least one month in advance of the proposed training dates.

WORKSHOP TOPICS

Fundamentals of Working with Youth: This training series is designed to provide direct-service staff with training in four areas critical to child/youth-centered practice (Conflict Resolution, Developmentally Appropriate Practice, Group/Behavior Management, and Keeping Children Safe & Healthy).  These workshops may be implemented as a series or as individual stand-alone sessions.

Conflict Resolution – Participants will understand the roots of conflict, and gain new strategies for dealing positively with conflict.  Learn strategies for helping children and youth manage conflicts.

SACC Regulations Satisfied:  (3) child day care program development

Developmentally Appropriate Practice - Participants become acquainted with the ages & stages of development of children and youth (elementary, middle and/or high school).  Engage in activities and learn how to plan lessons that support different developmental stages.

SACC regulations satisfied:  (1) . Principals of childhood development, including the appropriate supervision of children, meeting the needs of children enrolled in the program with physical or emotional challenges and behavior management and discipline; (3) child day care program development; (5) business record maintenance and management

Group/Behavior Management - Explore the underlying causes of common individual and group behavior challenges.  Learn developmentally appropriate strategies for managing challenging behaviors and make links to program policies regarding dealing with challenging behaviors.

Keeping Children Safe and Healthy- This training covers some of the essential components of creating programs that will help keep children safe and healthy.  Learn strategies for maintaining safe physical space (including fire & evacuation safety), and for creating a healthy program (emotional safety or nutrition)

SACC regulations satisfied:  (3) child day care program development; (4) safety and security procedures, including communication between parents and staff; (5) business record maintenance and management

AfterSchool KidzLit: Grades K-8. AfterSchool KidzLit, a program of the Developmental Studies Center in Oakland, CA, is a creative approach to using children’s literature in after-school programs to help children become better and more motivated readers, and improve their understanding of themselves and others.  The program is built around books, chosen specifically for children, ages 5–13. The titles cut across gender, ethnicity, time & place. Each book comes with a guide that provides background information, ideas and activities for bringing books to life.  Site staff will be trained in the KidzLit philosophy and strategies for using the materials and implementing the program.  Sites must have materials prior to training. The full set of KidzLit books and materials are available for purchase by the agency.

AfterSchool KidzMath: Grades K-6. AfterSchool KidzMath, developed by the Developmental Studies Center in Oakland, CA, incorporates two separate components into its program.  Using math games and story-based programming, KidzMath helps reinforce math skills for children in primary and intermediate grades. KidzMath also supports social learning by promoting cooperation without competition.  Site staff will be trained in the KidzMath philosophy and understanding how to use the math games and stories to reinforce skill-building.  Sites must have materials prior to training. KidzMath Games and Story Guides kits are available for purchase by the agency.
